Home Office: A 2020 Essential Item

A recent American study determined that nearly 43% of full-time employees would choose to work from home more often now that businesses and economies are reopening after the COVID-19 pandemic took the world by storm. It’s been necessary for employers and employees alike to adapt to a drastic change in how they conduct business. From participating in meetings and conferences, closing sales contracts, or providing customer support, many business transactions have shifted to virtual platforms as employees work from home. Although you cannot see or hear it over the phone, those employees are simultaneously juggling children and other daily household activities in the background.

Adjusting to Working from Home

Living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms are not optimal places to focus or be productive, especially if it is a shared space with others in the household. It's difficult to be on a conference call with your children asking for a snack or direct your attention to a presentation while you're thinking about the dishwasher that needs to be unloaded, and unless you are on a video conference, it can be tempting to run to the next room and knock out a quick chore. There’s no doubt that frequent interruptions will impact your work flow, even if your intention is to start right back where you left off. Eliminate the distractions by investing in an outdoor home office!

Need Space?

Though some homeowners have the extra space in the form of an unused bedroom or bonus room, others are challenged with designating an area for work in their home. Spreading out important documents on your bed or couch is not ideal, but it might be the only option. Whereas a functional, organized workspace outside of your living space will encourage you to work more efficiently and with fewer distractions.

Make it Yours!

Not to mention, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to create your own unique space. Set your own layout, pick your own furniture, decorate to your own taste. Who says you have to look at a drab grey office? Choose a comfortable office chair and desk. Incorporate bright, energetic accent colors like yellow or red to make it more engaging. It just might end up being a space you enjoy for other activities!

Find a Balance

If you are working from home, the biggest benefit to having a dedicated home office is the ability to separate your work from your personal life. If you’re working from the dining room table, you may not be all that eager to sit down for supper with the rest of the family. Going to plop down on the couch after a long day isn’t as appealing if you’ve already spent all day working there.

Final Thoughts

Portable buildings offer the flexibility to customize an outdoor home office to meet your needs with added features like electrical packages and framed interior walls. It’s easy to convert a building into a fully functional office space. A rent to own shed can provide you with a convenient, temporary work area until you are able to return to the company office. Once you’re done with the unit, request to discontinue the rental agreement and have it picked up. However, if you decide to keep the building long term, opting for a rent to own agreement rather than buying outright will save some of the upfront cost which can then be used to purchase furnishings. When you're ready, you can pay off the building at any time and take full ownership.
