MOUNTAINS

Unto These Hills - is a musical-historical drama that portrays the history of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee from Spanish explorer DeSoto’s arrival to their exodus to Oklahoma along the “trail of tears.” June 14 - August 26 (Monday - Saturday). Horn in the West - follows frontiersman Daniel Boone and his band of mountain settlers as they struggle against the British militia during the Revolutionary War period. HEARTLAND

Ripple in the River - tells of the life and death of the people and town of Sneydsborough, NC, a small, bustling port on the headwaters of the Pee Dee river which thrived from the Dates: 1790’s until dismantlement just prior to the Civil War. The Sword of Peace - is a Quaker outdoor drama of turbulent times in N.C. during the American Revolution.

Pathway to Freedom - is the story of how anti-slavery North Carolinians and freed African-Americans helped hundreds of escaped slaves flee to the north prior to the Civil War. June 21 - August 12. Amistad Saga: Reflections - relates a mutiny aboard a slave ship that marked the beginning of the end of slavery in the U.S. Amistad dramatizes the plight of the ship’s captives, from their removal from their native land to a revolt at sea and their battle for freedom. Duplin Voices: An Adaption of the Duplin Story - tells the story of Duplin County’s evolution, from its founding in 1749, through its contributions and sacrifices related to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and includes William Thornton’s space flight..June 9 - July 1 (Friday & Saturday). First For Freedom - celebrates events leading to the April 12, 1776 signing of the Halifax Resolves , the first formal declaration of independence from Great Britain by an American colony. Worthy Is The Lamb - shows scenes of Jesus’ life, ministry, and miracles, on a 300 foot stage overlooking the White Oak River. The performance is enhanced with special effects and surround sound. The Lost Colony - depicts the valiant struggle of 117 men, women, and children to settle in the New World in 1587. They disappeared without a trace and, for over 400 years, this continues to be one of history’s greatest mysteries. June 2 - August 25 (Monday - Saturday).
